CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
The Texas 4-H Program is announcing a call for applications for the Food and Nutrition Project Development Team. Applications are due in the state 4-H office by October 1, 2008. 4-H members, volunteers and county Extension agents are invited to apply for this statewide leadership opportunity. Refer to the project team bylaws for membership details.

BYLAWS
ARTICLE I: Name and Objectives
Section 1: The name of this organization shall be the Texas 4-H Food and Nutrition Project Team.
Section 2: This shall be a nonprofit organization for the purpose of promoting education and activities through the 4-H food and nutrition project.
Section 3: The objectives of this organization shall be:
a. To provide leadership and oversight to the 4-H Food and Nutrition Project.
b. Coordinate events that will provide learning situations for the development of leadership and effective citizenship related to the food and nutrition project.
c. Provide educational experiences that will enable 4-H members across the state to become knowledgeable and skilled in the food and nutrition project area.
d. To help each project team member experience personal growth and achievement, as well as be of service to others.
ARTICLE II: Membership
Section 1: Membership in this organization shall be open to all 4-H members and leaders regardless of socioeconomic level, race, color, sex, national origin or disability.
Section 2: Members must have completed a project team application and been accepted on to the project team. A call for project team applications shall be sent out at the beginning of each 4-H year.
Section 3: 4-H members must be 14 years of age at the time of application.
Section 4: All members serve a two-year term, with the year running from September to August . Members may serve consecutive terms but must re-apply if they wish to renew membership on the project team.
ARTICLE III: Officers and Elections
Section 1: The officers of the project team shall be chair, vice chair, secretary and public relations officer.
Section 2: Youth members of the project team shall serve as the officers in order to provide them with state level leadership opportunities and experiences.
Section 3: Officers shall be elected annually at the fall/winter meeting. Officers shall serve a term of one year beginning whenever installation is held and shall not be eligible for the same office the following year. Any person appointed to fill an unexpired term may be eligible for the same office the following year.
Section 4: The officers of the project team shall constitute an executive committee.
Section 5: Any officer position that becomes vacant shall be filled by someone appointed by the executive committee.
ARTICLE IV: Duties of Officers
Section 1: Duties of the chair shall be:
a. Preside at all meetings of the project team, enforce the bylaws and exercise supervision over the affairs of the team.
b. Appoint committees as needed.
c. Serve as an ex-officio member of each committee.
Section 2: Duties of the vice chair shall be:
a. to assist the chair.
b. to perform the duties of the chair in the absence of that officer.
c. to serve as chair of the food tour committee.
Section 3: Duties of the secretary shall be:
a. Keep a full and current record of all proceedings of the project team.
b. Keep the roll and read the minutes at each meeting.
Section 4: Duties of the public relations officer shall be:
a. Promote activities of the project team to other 4-H members, counties, districts, and the state.
b. Develop and distribute promotional materials of the project team's activities.
Include other duties as needed.
ARTICLE V: Leaders and Duties
Section 1: An assigned Texas 4-H Faculty member shall serve as advisor to the project team and liaison between the team and the Texas 4-H Program Office.
ARTICLE VI: Committees and Duties
Section 1: Committees may be named as the need arises.
ARTICLE VII: Meetings
Section 1: Two regular meetings of this organization shall be held each year:
a. In November at the conclusion of Ambassador & Rec Team Training OR in January at the conclusion of Teen Retreat.
b. In June at Texas 4-H Roundup.
Section 2: Special meetings may be called by the chair, under the direction of the project team advisor.
ARTICLE VIII: Procedure
Section 1: Robert's Rules of Order, Revised shall be the accepted authority in all matters pertaining to parliamentary procedure that are not specifically covered in the club's bylaws.
ARTICLE IX: Team Disbandment
Section 1: Upon the disbandment of the project team, all real property, including money, equipment and land, shall become the property of the Texas 4-H Program for care and disposition. The last official duty of the project team shall be to effect the transfer of any team property and to turn over all records to the Texas 4-H Program.
ARTICLE X: Amendments
Section 1: These bylaws may be amended at any regular meeting of the club by a two-thirds vote of the members present, provided that the proposed amendments have been presented to the club in writing with the meeting notice. Amendments must not conflict with the basic 4-H philosophy.

FOOD AND NUTRITION AMBASSADORS
PURPOSE
To provide support to the county, district and state Extension staff in an effort to promote the 4-H Food and Nutrition Project. This group will assist with delivery of educational material related to the Food and Nutrition Project and report successful results.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be at least a Freshman or 15 years of age as of September 1 of the current year.
- Must have participated in the 4-H Food and Nutrition Project at least three years.
- Must complete and submit an Ambassador application and a 4-H-related letter of recommendation.
- Must be willing to present 4-H Food and Nutrition Project workshops on a county, district and/or state level.
- Must be willing to present informaiton to county commissioners, state legislators and other groups to promote and enhance the 4-H Food and Nutrition Project.
- Must attend training at the Ambassador and Rec Team Training in November at the Texas 4-H Conference Center.
- Must complete and turn in a Contact Report Form for each workshop presented.
TERMS
Applications are due June 1 of each year and are reviewed by an appointed committee consisting of members of the Texas 4-H Food and Nutrition Project Development Team. Announcement of acceptance will be made in June.
Ambassadors must meet all requirements on an annual basis and complete a renewal application in order to continue the term as an Ambassador. All renewal applications are due June 1, 2008. Ambassadors that do not turn in all required reports by May 1st are not eligible to re-apply for another term as an ambassador and should not submit a renewal applicaiton.
NEWSLETTER - "Nutrition News"
A bi-monthly newsletter will be released and sent to all Food and Nutrition Ambassadors. The purpose of the newsletter is to highlight ambassador programs, provide programming ideas and food and nutriton resources available.
